Give Him Room

You will want him to have a well-rounded life with healthy male relationships, free time to exercise or follow other hobbies, and a career where he can excel. Instead of calling him incessantly during his day at the office, you will back off and let him focus on his work. By giving him space and not insisting that he spend every spare second with you, you will be communicating that you really care about his needs and his time. You will want him to get a good night's sleep and not stay up until the morning hours talking to you about how he feels.
Make a Sacrifice
There is almost nothing that speaks of love greater than a sacrifice. If you know your loved-one is desiring a certain item that is out of his price range, you can show real love by sacrificing something to buy it for him. After presenting him with his new iPhone that you could only afford by giving up restaurants for a month, he will be shocked by your sacrifice and actions. You will definitely have made him realize that you truly love him.
In the movie Fireproof, Kirk Cameron's character sacrifices the money he has saved up to buy his dream boat and uses it instead to purchase some medical equipment for his estranged wife's sick mother. This one action knocks the wind out of her and single-handedly revives their relationship. She realizes at this point that he does love her and has put her desires before his own.
Tell Him
Don't underestimate the power of words. Instead of saying it flippantly like "Bye, I love you," try sitting down and telling him the many reasons why you love him and the qualities that you admire in his personality. He will get it.
