My beloved and late friend and I used to spend our afternoon walks discussing my love life. Now that he's gone, I wonder if he would still say that I am in love with the idea of love. How about you? Are you really in love or are you just in love with the idea of Love? Let's see.
Are you in love with the Idea of Love? How to tell?
The first warning sign can be the immediate attraction you think you feel to the opposite sex under the following circumstances:
- You recently broke up with your girlfriend or boyfriend.
- Your previous relationship started and ended two weeks ago.
- Most of your relationships are based on physical attraction.
- The second warning sign can be seen within yourself. If you believe you feel that you behave in the following manner, then you have the tendency to fall in love with the Idea of Love:
- You do not commit unless you see that the person is totally and mindlessly in love with you.
- You don't show too much emotion or show too much emotion but can easily become detached when the person have hurt you
- You long to see yourself married happily with kids but you don't have any particular person in mind that you want to spend that aspect of your life.
- You are always looking for the "perfect match." You want someone to "complete you."
- You feel that you should date more often and feels obliged to sleep with your date.
How many times have you tried seeing a romantic movie with your boyfriend or your husband? Were you able to observe how they tend to be sleepy when sweet, romantic scenes are up then all perky and awake during the love scenes? It is this difference in the two gender that makes it confusing to know whether you are in love or not.
Men believe that they are in love when they have already slept with the woman they liked, felt that she's not too demanding, she's altruistic, beautiful and ideal to be the mother of his children. Women on the other hand believe that they are in love when they meet a man whom they cannot stop thinking, one they look forward to seeing and has "cute" shortcomings that they can easily shrug off. It is on this basis that people get into a relationship. But when both have been subjected to a test of distance for a short or long duration, both gender will tend to forget the other and seek attention elsewhere. Well, not at the same time. Either the man or the woman will seek other partners but eventually, what was thought to be love on the first hand will start to wear off. Now, is that love?
In his book, "The Alchemist," Paolo Coelho's character Fatima mentioned love:
"One is loved, because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving."
Quite true. Ask your child why he or she loves you. If the child cannot answer, you are indeed blessed with loving children. So when you ask someone if they love you and they positively replied, ask them again why. If they start rationalizing with many points, then you know that you are not loved at all.
