3D Animation Movie Maker - The Evolution of Making Animations at Home

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

I guess a lot of people would like to make their own movies. By that I mean to go beyond editing together movie clips taken while on holiday, to making movies which tell a story. In most cases professional actors are expensive and most friends don't make good actors. This is why making a 3D animation movie is a satisfying low cost alternative.

I remember a holiday movie my father made in the 1950s. It had an animated title filmed, like the rest of the movie on 8mm celluloid film. When I asked him about it, he told me he had put his camera in a clamp pointing at the floor. He then created the first letter of the title using a piece of string and filmed it for a couple of seconds, then he created the second letter and so on. It was several days later, when the film came back from the developing laboratory that he discovered that his desk lamp had not really been adequate to illuminate his work properly.

Then along came computers. It took a while before computers got good at graphics, even stationary ones. But of course they did eventually get good, not only at rendering still scenes, but also animations. Unfortunately Hollywood studios being able to afford high powered hardware and software did not make it accessible to the amateur movie maker.

The high price of professional 3D animation software led to the concept of Machinima. In Machinima inexpensive computer games are used to record 3D animated movie clips. Some computer games have a camera or record function built into them, and for others which do not, there are additional utilities such as Fraps, which can be used for recording the game action.

Popular Machinima games include Quake, Unreal Tournament and SIMS 2. These games come with the ability to design your own sets and characters, either as part of the main game itself or using utilities, which are provided with the game. Admittedly getting exactly the movie clips you want from these games can be challenging. I never did find out how to part characters in Unreal Tournament or Quake from their guns, which meant unless you wanted to make a shoot 'em up movie, they were not ideal. No doubt obstacles like this could be overcome, but it seemed you could not get very far unless you were prepared to get immersed in scripting language.

Of the three games I have mentioned, SIMS 2, is probably the easiest to use for making Machinima, except that the characters, or in our case actors, tend to have minds of their own. So your movie star may wander off part way through filming, or someone else you don't recognize, might suddenly turn up and disrupt the scene you are shooting. With SIMS 2 you might even find your movie set spontaneously combusting during filming if you forgot to buy fire insurance. Perhaps this is like movie making in real life, but I would prefer not to have to put up with all of these uncertainties.

So you may wonder why no one has produced a budget software product, specifically for the purpose of making 3D animations at home. In fact Microsoft did exactly that in the mid 1990s with a product called 3D Movie Maker, which they targeted at the kids market. However the product was designed for early PCs, so it was pretty basic, on most home PCs it was slow, and it was soon discontinued.

Recently there has been recognition of this unfulfilled need. Reallusion in particular, has developed a 3D animation movie maker called iClone. This software is pretty much a dream come true for anyone who wants to tell a story using 3D animation. In its basic form it costs about the same as a new top end computer game, while the more advanced and more useful Pro version is still very reasonable.

Although you could make a whole movie in iClone, I find it is best to use it to construct a series of 3D animation movie clips and to then edit them together using Microsoft Movie Maker, which comes as part of Windows, or using a more advanced home movie editing suite such as Pinnacle Studio.

Other key points to note about iClone are that if you want to get up and running very quickly, there is a good library of actors, scenes and props, which you can purchase to add to the collection, which comes with the program itself. On the other hand if you are short of cash and prefer to build everything yourself and have plenty of time to spare, you can do that too using the tools included in the software.

One optional utility, which I recommend purchasing bundled with the iClone, is Reallusion's 3DXchange. This allows you to import content from other sources, including Google 3D Warehouse, which is a fantastic resource full of free models of buildings and other props, to enhance your 3D animations.

I find it amazing to think that with a budget of less than ,000 I can now purchase a PC and the software required to make 3D animation movies, when twenty years ago I would have needed $ millions for less capable facilities.

Create an Avatar Free - Make a Cartoon Character of Yourself

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Nowadays, being anonymous behind the computer is becoming the lesser preference as many people are more daring in letting their individuality show, whether through the use of real pictures or avatars. An avatar is an animated picture that is used to identify an individual in internet forums and chat boards. Creating an avatar is becoming a trend for many internet users especially with the elaborateness some websites that allows you to create an animated picture that looks exactly like you, for free.

There are lots of popular online websites that let you go wild in creating your avatars. To create an animated character of yourself for free, you will have to just go and visit those sites and follow the instructions given. A blank character should be visible in a box before you start creating one. To set the character at default, you can just click on a button and start experimenting with as many as 16 tabs which allow you to have your unique pick of hairstyles, eyebrows, and clothing. A single tab will offer you dozens of different choices so that you are able to create an avatar that looks exactly like you.

There are also some websites that allow you to create dynamic avatars for free for your personal use almost anywhere on the web. Some offer an easy method that does not use any Flash, ActiveX controls, downloads or toolbars. To create an avatar, you will only have to click on the 'create' tab at the homepage. You will be given the choice to select your gender, skin color and eye color of your own preference. As you click on the 'next' button, several options for expressions, hair and eyewear can be customized according to your taste. Every time a selection is made, you will notice changes in your picture. Once you are satisfied with your creation, you can save the animated picture onto your computer.

Creating an avatar is so much more fun and interesting today as you are able to have it look exactly like a cartoon version of yourself.

Article Writing for MLM Leads - What This Looks Like

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

It's time to write a good old fashioned "how to get MLM leads using article marketing" article. We've had a nice run with the warm fuzzy analogies, but it's time to get to work.

This "how to" stuff is just as important as making you feel good. I want you to go away understanding what you need to do with your day when it comes to writing your article. I'd hate to see you get blocked from the most useful article submission sites because you weren't aware of the importance of the rules I'm about to outline for you.

Let's talk rules.

Rule #1 for composing an article to get MLM leads:

* Everyone is your pupil.
* I'm talking about schooling your potential students in what you know. We're in a business of duplication so if you teach what you practice then you'll have a foundation for building a relationship of trust with your hopeful leads.

Rule #2:

* Don't self promote! Keep your topic on what to do, what to know, and how to do it. It's promotion enough just that you're the one sharing the knowledge. Don't say "hey I'm the coach for you!" or anything like it. (There is a place for third person self promotion in the signature box. Keep it simple. Take care how you word your plug.)
* Interpretation: Just share your knowledge. Give away your best stuff. Share, share, share.

Rule #3 for writing an article to get MLM leads:

* Talk to one audience.
* It's a mistake to talk to a "group", and it's a mistake to try to cover more than one target market in one piece of content.
* It's so important to help your audience feel that you understand them. They need you to communicate to them on their level - and believe me there are plenty of other articles to write. So focus on that one person as if they're sitting across a desk from you.
* If you feel that you have something to say to both audiences then write two articles. It's as easy as that.
* Again - connect with your audience on a one on one level. Help them. They're needs are at the front of your mind and you're trying to help them solve a need. They're only looking at your article in the first place to find a solution to a problem.
* Examples: (Do this) "Hi there my friend. I know you've been struggling to make ends meet and you're trying to use your MLM to earn some extra money..." (Don't do this) "Hi there my friends. You're all struggling to make ends meet and I know all of you want to use your MLM to earn some money..."

Rule #4:

* Knowing what to say is as simple as looking at what your mentors are writing. Just get a little inspiration by wandering over to your favorite coach's blog.
* You can either write a review about what they said and what it brought to your mind, or you can simply write a similar article in your own words.
* It'll come to you if you'll sit and type. Even if it takes a little longer than you think it should.

Rule #5 for writing an article to get MLM leads:

* Keywords go at the front of the headline -
* In the description (toward the first few words) -
* In the first 90 characters (first few words) of the body copy -
* Every 100(ish) words of your article -
* As the anchor text for your text links in your signature (in the signature box) -

That's about it. You can do it! Print this article out if you need to and pin it up next to your computer so you can refer to it and keep yourself on track. You can also write your own article like this.

Make sure you teach what works! Go get 'em.

See you at the top!

Inflatable Rental Can Jazz Up Any Child's Birthday Party

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Are you facing the task of finding fun activities for your child's birthday party? Are you worried that the kids at the party will be bored with simple games? If that's the case, you should consider renting an inflatable bounce house for your special occasion.

Renting an inflatable playhouse is becoming more and more widely used to spice up a birthday party. These houses are called by many names, such as bounce houses, moonwalks, inflatable castles, and jumping castles. It's no wonder they are such a hit with many children - they create an atmosphere of a county fair and take the birthday party to the next level.

Inflatable bounce houses now come in many different shapes and forms including popular cartoon character figures, obstacle courses, boxing matches, bungee competitions, and climbing walls. They also come in many different styles of slides and can even include water slides.

Inflatable bounce houses allow children to have very active play in a lot safer environment than playing on regular trampoline, or just jumping around outside. Today's bouncy inflatables are built with stringent guidelines to help ensure the safety of children. Obviously, adult supervision is always necessary to make sure that the rules are followed. Inflatable houses will specify how many children can use them at the same time and what the age or height restrictions are.

If you have a birthday party for your child with several children present, you will find that the cost of the inflatable bounce house rental will be well worth the excitement and fun that all the children will have.

Roasted Coffee Beans and the Art of Blending

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

The majority of roasted coffee beans currently consumed around the world make up blended coffee, a mixture of two or more varieties of beans. A smaller percentage of coffee drinkers brew single bean or single variety coffee. The vast majority of packaged coffees on grocery store shelves are blends.

It is common practice in all coffee consuming countries to mix different varieties of roasted coffee beans possessing different characteristics to obtain a smooth and balanced cup. This is called blending, a process requiring technical, geographical, and agricultural knowledge. The very best blenders/roasters, those using their blending skills and craftsmanship to develop the world's best tasting coffees, are considered artist by many coffee lovers.

Developing good blending skills takes years of blending experience before a blender acquires the skills needed to become proficient. A good blender must know all the properties and characteristics of all the different coffees grown, especially those he uses regularly. In addition, because each year's coffee harvest is different than the last, he must know how the characteristics of this year's crop vary from previous years harvests.

A blend typically consists of two or more varieties of coffee mixed together. However, the more common practice is to use several different varieties of coffee when creating a blend. The purpose of using several varieties of coffee in a blend is because if one of the varieties used in the blend becomes unavailable for some reason it will be much less noticed in a blend using five or six varieties as opposed to one using two or three varieties of coffee.

The first consideration when blending coffees is, of course, flavor. Flavors are described as:

  • acidy
  • bitter
  • smooth
  • neutral
  • flat
  • wild
  • grassy
  • groundy
  • sour
  • fermented
  • hidey

A blender begins with an idea of the taste and flavor they are wanting to experience then combines different varieties of coffees to create the desired taste. Typically a properly balanced blend will have a full rich body as it's foundation to which the blender adds a coffee variety to give it some acid character and another to provide increased aroma.

A coffee blender's personal preferences play a huge part in how a coffee blend finally turns out. Some blenders prefer a coffee with a pronounced acid taste. Another blender may prefer a non-acid cup. As they say, it's all a matter of taste.

Coffees are divided into four primary groups:

  • neutral flavored
  • sweet flavored
  • acid flavored
  • bitter flavored

All East Indian coffees (except Ceylons, Malabars and other Hindoostan varieties) are classified as bitter. Old brown Bucaramangas, brown Bogotas and brown Santos are considered bitter as well.

Acid coffees typically come from the western hemisphere and are grown in countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Bogotas, Caracas, Guatemalas, Santos, etc. Aging an acid coffee can reduce it's acidity to the point where it becomes sweet or sweet-bitter.

Red Santos beans are generally a sweet coffee and highly prized by blenders. High-grade washed Santo Domingo and Haiti coffees are sweet both as a new crop as well as when aged.

Well schooled coffee blenders do not mix two new crop acid coffees or two old crop bitter varieties unless their bitterness or acidity is counteracted with coffee varieties having opposite characteristics and flavors.

Some coffees are better when new and some are better after being aged for awhile. However a blend of fine old crop coffee with a snappy new crop coffee gives a better result than either type used separately.

The Real Purpose of Sex in Literature

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

You know there's a difference between pornography and erotica, don't you? Think about it. We'll get to it later.

Before I get to the purpose of sex scenes in fiction I will start with the purpose of fiction. You read fiction because you enjoy it. When you read a really good book, you are off into another world. An intimate world.

Fiction provides a degree of intimacy rarely found in real life. Where else can you read another person's mind, discover his conscious and subconscious motives?

Humans are story-tellers. Everyone has a story to tell because everyone uses language to share visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, and kinesthetic memories.

Everyone listens to, or reads, a well told story.

Tension makes a good story.

Now, here's the kicker: believable tension among identifiable characters in authentic situations, no matter how imaginary, creates unforgettable stories.

Think back to a favorite novel you read as a child-one that transported you and showed you new information about human nature. Mine was "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". I was ten or eleven. My mother saw me reading it and said, "Oh, you don't want to read that!" I had nearly finished reading it so continued behind her back. That book taught me about sex. No one else did. It was a gentle teaching.

Perhaps that's why I approve of sex scenes in fiction and why I write them.

Everyone has sexual feelings. How each person lives with his sexual feelings is idiosyncratic. No two people have identical attitudes toward sex, male myths to the contrary.

A sexual scene in a novel can be highly effective for characterization and theme. Memorable characters in literature, and life, for that matter, often confuse love and lust. He or she believes he is in love with someone who is ultimately all wrong for him--or her.

This confusion provides underlying tensions that enhance the plot.

Identifiable characters are created with just enough specific information such as speech inflection, body language and dialogue to make you say as you read, "I knew a guy just like that. His father was a bear."

Or, "She shouldn't be so uptight around men. But I would be, too, if I grew up with that grandmother."

Put these identifiable characters in an authentic, albeit imaginary, situation and you have an unforgettable story.

As readers glimpsing the thoughts and feelings of a well-rounded character, we learn about ourselves in the privacy of our own living room. We identify with the lead characters and say, "Oh yeah."

Shakespeare's characters are enduring because he gave them contradictions. To this day we can watch Mercutio explode and think, I've felt like that. Or Hamlet struggling with his conscience because he didn't know what to believe. Shakespeare gave his characters sexual drive as well as confusion. His sexual scenes produced on stage naturally were not as explicit as those can be in novels read in privacy

Characters make a story for me. I have fun and take great care creating my characters.

And, the difference between pornography and erotica in fiction? For pornography, I quote Lee Siegel's fascinating essay about Norman Mailer in the New York Times Book Review January 21, 2007: "In his book about Marilyn Monroe, Norman Mailer wrote, 'Since sex is, after all, the most special form of human communication, and the technological society is built on expanding communication in much the way capitalism was built on the expansive properties of capital and money, the perspective is toward greater promiscuity.' If you are seeking an explanation for why pornography takes up most of the Internet, there it is."

Pornography, like lots of money every Friday, has a happy ending even if it's always the same, but erotica ends unhappily with longing. In both, the characters are indistinguishable.

Which remind me of a friend who wrote and published several historical romance novels. She didn't like to write erotic scenes but the genre required one per novel. Therefore, she cut and pasted the one scene she had written and simply changed the names for all subsequent novels. It didn't matter in that genre if the characters were indistinguishable as long as the longing came through.

Top Business Books For Young Entrepreneurs

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

This top five list is our continuing list of favorites! As we continue to read business literature, we will update this article with more books. For now, we just wanted to name our personal favorites. Keep checking back for more suggestions on great books!

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't

Good to Great is my personal favorite. Jim Collins analyzes companies, on standards and statistics explained in the text, that made the transition from a good company, to a great one. While our entrepreneurial road to building a good company will be hard enough, it is one that has many paths. However, making that transition from good to great is rare and challenging. Many times if unsuccessful it will leave a company in a tough spot. Collins is a great writer with a great research team to back the words.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable

For those of you new to business literature, it may be boring or difficult to read at first. Patrick Lencioni presents invaluable leadership and team-related advice within a story. The fictional characters are personalities that we have all worked with, or will work with, in the future, and seem very real in the text. You can imagine yourself sitting with the executive team at their retreat. Lencioni's writing is refreshing and engaging. You will get lost in any one of his "Leadership Fables" quickly.

The Five Temptations of a CEO, 10th Anniversary Edition: A Leadership Fable (J-B Lencioni Series)

Lencioni is obviously my favorite author, so I will not brag on him too much. This is another book in the same format with the same feel as #2. This fable pertains to the CEO and the temptations that can be realized when he or she is failing. While some of these may seem obvious, reading about them in this fable is eye-opening. You can put yourself in the CEO's shoes and seriously consider the temptations. We all may easily be guilty of one or more, analyzing them will help us better ourselves.

The Code of the Executive: Forty-Seven Ancient Samurai Principles Essential for Twenty-First Century Leadership Success

A truly original and insightful read! Don Schmincke took the Code of the Samurai from ages ago (when Tom Cruise was a Samurai), and transferred it to relate to the executive. Surprisingly, you will not find a forced interpretation with vague or confusing links. It smoothly flows into a motivational/leadership book that goes beyond a normal read. Many great business motivation books are set on business and helping others perform. Schmincke takes this further and also focuses on the Executive's mind and body, and his or her interaction with family, friends, and others. Prepare yourself for an awakening in business and life.

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

Ferriss describes a concept in his book that may be new to most people--living like the "New Rich." Ferriss argues that people don't want to be millionaires to have million dollars, but to live like millionaires. By starting an automated profitable enterprise, Ferriss describes precisely how you too can "escape 9-5, live anywhere, and join the New Rich." Not a theoretical treatise on business concepts, this outstanding book is a step-by-step guide to creating wealth by working less.

Here are links to a couple of the books:

Mrs Obama's Salad Bars

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Michelle Obama is taking a star turn about putting salad bars into schools. One look at the cast of characters supporting this idea makes it obvious the salad bar hype isn't about health or children or anything else one can praise. This misbegotten idea is about control

Let's look at this.

• The abysmal nutritional value of today's school lunches is mandated by the federal government. If nutrition is the goal here, the first step should be getting rid of the heavy burden of regulations that make good nutrition impossible. But, no.

• The salad bar idea adds to the problem. Salad bar foods are sprayed with sulfites to keep everything from turning brown. A lot of people can't handle sulfites, some of them going into anaphylactic shock where the airways to the lungs shut down; death is imminent unless Johnny-on-the-spot is there with an epi-pen. The rest of the sensitive kids just get sharp stomach cramps and diarrhea, and how much fun is that?

• And salad dressings are almost always made from soy oil. Now the government loves soy; they subsidize soy growers to the tune of billions of dollars a year. But our bodies don't love it. Soy shuts down the thyroid, causes kidney stones, sucks the minerals we need out of our bodies, sends its aluminum to the brain and stokes us up with bogus estrogen, which leads to PMS, moobs and other disasters. Including breast and prostate cancer.

And there's more! Soy, because it's a big time player in omega 6 misbehavior, also causes inflammation, the beginning of every deadly disease we face.

• And the milk our school kids get-and will continue to get-comes chock-a-block full of antibiotics and, again, bogus estrogen. One result is that testosterone levels and sperm counts have taken a steep, deep nosedive in the last forty years or so.

And the milk comes from soy and corn fed cows. Which-adding to the antibiotic and hormone problems-means the nutrition is turned upside down. Instead of healthy omega 3 fats, we get omega 6, the king of inflammation. And with the life boiled out of it, pasteurized milk isn't healthy, in any case.

Did you know pus is an acceptable ingredient, according to our government, in factory-farm milk? Yum!

• And the salad bars will probably offer the same artificial cheese currently seen on school-lunch pizza. How does feeding kids with chemicals never seen in nature improve their health?

• Then there's that cast of characters strutting and puffing about this big, new idea. One member is the Canned Food Alliance. If they're so interested in health, why do they line their cans with synthetic estrogen that causes little girls to reach puberty a day or two after potty training, boys to go through life with low testosterone, women to suffer through PMS leading to breast cancer and men to grow breasts leading to prostate cancer?

• Not to mention the American Diabetes Association that stonewalls all the solid evidence about cures for Type 2 Diabetes (easy cures, I might add). They prefer the patient-for-life approach that leads to blindness, amputations and early death. Am I to believe they celebrate health?

• And how about the American Heart Association? They still push the myth that cholesterol causes heart disease when research put a nail in that coffin long since. And their diet for heart patients is a disaster, so how can we trust them with our kids' diet?

• The American and National Cancer Societies are not pro-health, either. As I mentioned, soy is a big player in the breast and prostate cancer scene, but these folks can't find it in their hearts to say so. Or to point even a pinky finger at any of the other health monsters we face.

Virtually every health-based non-profit is political. Health has nothing to do with anything. Don't believe what they write and don't give them money when they ask.

And this salad-bar business is bogus.

Besides that, where does Mrs. Obama get off telling other parents how to raise their children? Perhaps she never heard the phrase "home of the free." If she did, she was never proud of it. Else, why is she trying to destroy our freedoms? Especially with such a bad, unhealthy idea?

To sum up: Ditch the salad bar idea, get rid of the burdensome school-lunch government regulations and put school lunches up for local bids from private companies. No big players need apply. We have to get back to local control if we value the education and health of our children.

Five Golden Rules for Writers

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Regardless of what sort of writer you are and how much you love to write, there are probably days when you'd rather clean ditches than face another blank page.

As writers, we face common challenges; staying motivated and confident, avoiding "writer's block," and meeting goals (on time!) are some of the toughest. Here is some of the best practical advice I've come by, or discerned myself, for becoming and remaining productive, creative, and content while traversing the writer's path. Try implementing these "Five Golden Rules" and see if they work for you.

Golden Rule #1: Avoid dwelling on past work: get on with it.

This is maybe the most important, and most difficult to follow of the Golden Rules. There is actually a subset of rules under this category, since there are many ways to "dwell" and many things to dwell on. Take heed, then, that thou shalt never:

* Stop writing for a time because you received a discouraging rejection letter. Whether or not you've been published yet, mark a file folder "Acceptance Letters" and expect to fill it eventually. Your day will come.

* Stop writing for a time because you've completed something or because you've had an acceptance. There is a tendency to relax, to say: "Ah, I've done it." Savor the moment, sure; but don't get overly lazy with your writing. Move on to your next project.

* Reread every sentence, paragraph, etc. after you've just written it. Learn to disengage your "editor" self until the work is finished -- you'll be much more efficient and prolific this way.

Golden Rule #2: Accept rejection gleefully!

Well, maybe not "gleefully." But it is true: you can learn from rejections. Therefore:

* Test your work on other writers you admire and listen to what they bring up, both the compliments and the criticisms.

* If you receive a rejection letter that contains comments on why your piece was turned down, read it, file it, and think about it; decide if you should edit the work some more before sending it out again. Chances are if the editor took the time to write a note to you, they saw some kind of potential in your work -- that's the next best thing to being accepted!

* Finally, remember that you must study your markets carefully, and be selective about what article, story, etc. you send to what publication. Rejection might simply indicate that you sent your work to the wrong place.

Golden Rule #3: Keep track of everything ... everything.

If you are sending stuff out to editors, you must keep track of what you send, where you send it, and when you send it.

One good way to keep a log is to create a table, either with your word processor or by hand, with columns marked for: 1. Title of work or query; 2. Title of journal, magazine, etc. you sent to; 3. Date sent; 4. Date accepted or rejected (mark A or R, date); 5. Other places the work was sent.

* Make sure not to leave out 5, since you don't want to waste time re-sending a piece to somewhere it has been turned down. You might want to mark beside 2 how long you expect to wait for a reply, if you have this information.

* Print off extra copies of your cover letters and keep them in a file with the submitted pieces attached.

* You might also want to log how many hours you spend writing each day, week, etc., to help keep you honest.

* Organize your correspondence, research materials, notes, and other important documents and keep them in handy portable file boxes.

Golden Rule #4: Write about what interests you.

Everyone has heard the sermon about writing "what you know." It's good to keep in mind, however, that what you don't yet know can be learned, through research or contact with other people.

* As long as it interests you, it's a topic worthy of pursuing. Go to the library and look it up;watch a documentary; conduct interviews with experts; listen to people's stories, memories and impressions. Then write.

* If it bores you silly, but you feel you should write about it because: (a) it's a marketable subject/theme; (b) someone has asked you to write about it; (c) everyone else is writing about it; or (d) nobody else is writing about it -- go ahead, if you'll receive proper compensation for your boredom. If not, leave it alone.

* If your subject excites you tremendously, but seems to bore everyone else, you can: write it anyway because it's good for the soul; scour the publishing world for a suitable market, since there's bound to be someone who shares your (possibly obscure) interest; or slant your article/story to suit a particular publication.

Golden Rule #5: Stare at the wall; drink some coffee; scribble.

You can substitute the ceiling, some tea, and doodling if you wish. As long as you get away from the work for a bit to relax, ponder, daydream, pet the cat. "But that's a waste of precious time," you say. Not true. On the contrary: you can't ignore this rule and expect to flourish as a writer. Why? Because "goofing off" actually serves to fuel your imagination and restock your creative resources. You can't expect to function physically without sleep, right? Likewise, you can't expect to function as a writer unless you occasionally . . .

* Do other creative things, whether you're "good" at them or not. Make a cartoon with stick figures. Try watercolors. Take a dance class. Improvise a song while you shower.

* Move around. You'll notice that your mind tends to go numb at about the same point your butt does: that's your signal to get up and take a walk outside, wrestle with the kids, do Tai Chi, whatever. Just move.

* Is there a character in your story whose been giving you grief? Maybe you haven't gotten to know her properly yet, or she you. Invite her to shuffle about your brain while you peel potatoes and ask her a few questions -- you'll be surprised at how agreeable she becomes.

* Get out of the house! Or office. Cabin fever is a continuous occupational hazard for writers, but you don't have to succumb: get together with friends, or simply be around other people in a public place.

There you have them, the golden rules. Maybe you knew them already -- at least intuitively. I find, however, that it's good to be explicit about how we structure and govern our writing lives. Without rules to live by, and goals to strive for, our art suffers -- languishes from lack of discipline and drive. So buck up and commit the rules to memory, recite them once a day. And write, write, write!

Creating Characters That Are Real For Your Novel

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

One of the biggest challenges for authors when they start writing a novel is to create characters that are real. How is the best way to make your characters real? There are several tips and tricks that are used, but the first thing is that they become real after the author has come to know them at least as well as his or her friends. They must know all the characters physical attributes and personal data, and they must also know all about their private side such as how they feel and see things around them.

Many authors use a process called characterization when it comes to identifying the visible attributes as well as the history of the character. This is the best place to start as you start getting to know the cast that will be in your story. You need to know what they look like, where they were born, what sign they were born under, as well as their likes and dislikes. The best way to do this is to write a profile for each of your main characters. You need to know how many brothers and sisters they have, what kind of education and upbringing did they have, and any other thing that is unique and distinctive from the norm.

The second part of getting to know your story's cast members is much more challenging. You will need to understand what sort of person each character is and what emotional traits they possess. You need to know how they will react in certain situations, and you need to understand their moral compass. Also, you should realize that when you start putting the story together, you may see the personalities of these characters changing from the way you initially saw them in order to accommodate the storyline. These types of adjustments are quite common when writing a novel.

Creating a Yahoo Mail Account

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Yahoo Mail is one of the most widely used and diverse E-mail applications today. Creating a Yahoo Mail account is a relatively short process. To create a Yahoo Mail account, start by entering to Yahoo's website into your internet browser. On the top right side of the page, there will be four options to choose from: "Sign In", "New Here? Sign Up", "What are you doing?" and "Page Options". Click on "New Here? Sign Up". After clicking on the "New Here? Sign Up" option, the browser will load an application page for Yahoo Mail. This will have several sections for you to fill out completely to create your account. Let's begin.

The first section is labeled "Tell us about yourself...". This is where you will enter your first and last name, or any name you choose. Next, select your gender from the drop down box "-Select One-". After this, there will be another drop down box labeled "-Select Month-". Select your month of birth from the menu, then type in the date and year of your birth in the fields next to it. "I live in" is where you will choose the country in which you are currently residing. Finally for this section, you'll need to enter your postal or zip code.

The next section to be completed is "Select an ID and password". Select the box next to "Yahoo ID and Email", and enter in the e-mail address you prefer. Now it's time to choose a password. There will be a password strength meter on the right side of this box. To create the most secure, or strongest password, you will want to enter an alphanumeric password of at least 8 characters. Make sure this password does not resemble your Yahoo ID, or any personal information pertaining to you. Repeat the password you have chosen in the box labeled 'Re-type Password' exactly as you have in the previous box to complete the "Select an ID and Password" segment.

The third section, "In case you forget your ID or password..." is to help in case you do not remember your account name or password in the future. If you have another e-mail address, type it into the "Alternate Email" box. Underneath this, you will see two "Security Question" options. Use the drop down menus to select your security questions. The answer you enter, under these drop down questions, should be an answer you'll remember by memory only. Do not write down this information if you want a secure account, as this information can be used to access your account. Also, make sure the questions you choose are the questions you are most likely to remember correctly.

"Just a couple more details..." is the final portion. This is where you will enter in a security code that tells the website that you are a real person. If you're have trouble reading the jumbled characters, click on the "Need audio assistance?" option. This button will play a word or code to you over your speakers that you can type into the field labeled "Type the code shown". Under the security code, you will see a "Do you agree?" check box. This box must be checked to allow Yahoo Mail to create your account. You can choose to read through the rules in the links provided.

And with this, you now have a Yahoo Mail account. Enjoy!

How to Make 3D Paper Art

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Have you seen 3d paper art effects on scrapbook pages and wondered how they were achieved? Sometimes it takes very little to add a lot to a page or a card. It can look as though you have spent hours making a special item when in reality, it may only have taken some well placed presses or a little knowledge of how to go about shaping your hand made or store bought embellishments.

Make 3D paper flowers

One of the best tools I know for shaping paper flowers is actually called a flower shaping tool. It looks like a plastic stick that is rounded on both ends. One end is tapered and the other end has a half circle shape that allows you to crease your paper flower art. When you buy a tool, also purchase a soft mat (like a more forgiving mouse pad) to use when shaping your flowers.

If you have some basic paper punches (circles, hearts) you are then in business for making shaped paper flowers. A flower with petals is really made up of repetitive shapes. Punch out several hearts to form the petals, then place your flat piece of heart shaped card stock on the flower shaping mat.

Have you noticed that petals have a slight cup shape towards the centre of the flower? Press on the pointy end of the heart and roll the tool to add a cup like shape.

Have you also noticed that many petals have a little lip on the edge, or a rounded shape? You can create both with a few presses of your tool. Then simply do the same to all of the rest of the petals and assemble your flower, using adhesive to keep the petals in place. Sometimes it helps to punch out a circle to act as a base to adhere the petals to.

Make 3d paper leaves

Need some 3d leaves? Flat leaves can look fine, but adding a 3d element to them makes them look almost real. To make a simple leaf, punch a heart shape and cut it down the centre lengthwise, then finish trimming the shape into a leaf. You will have a rounded end (the stem end) and a pointy end to your leaf.

If you want raggedy edges leaves, tear the edges or cut them with decal edged scissors. If you want a mottled look now is the time to sponge your leaf with ink or splash it with paints or other treatments.

When it is dry, fold the leaf in half lengthwise, then crumple the card stock leaf and flatten it out slightly. Again use your paper shaping tool and pad to form a cup like shape on the rounded end, and maybe curl the tip of the leaf slightly. You can also draw in the veins and stem line of the leaf and/or ink the edges. I like to use gold ink on the edges of many of my leaves. Then make as many leaves as you like and add them to your card or layout.

If you compare these leaves to projects with flat leaves, the difference can be stunning.

Quill it

Another way to add dimension to layouts and cards is the quilling technique. for those who have not tried it, it looks very impressive yet is not very hard to do. Quilled shapes are made with thin strips of paper tightly or loosely coiled around a needle like shape. There are also quilling trays that will help the coils you make to stay a uniform size so you can make exact 'building blocks' for your embellishments.

The end of the strip of paper is either anchored down while the coil is tight or the coil is allowed to relax and the loose end is adhered when it has finished uncoiling. You will get better adhesion if you tear the end of your strip of paper as a torn end adheres more invisibly than a straight cut one. You can buy quilling tools, or just start with a darning needle pushed into a cork and use the cork as a handle while you wrap thin strips of paper around the needle. You can buy special quilling paper packs, though I have heard of people using thin paper put through a shredder for some of their projects. I personally find a shredder makes the paper a little too wide for card embellishments, but you may like that effect, especially on a 12" x 12" scrapbook layout.

Quilled embellishments can be made by repeating certain shapes. For example, the basic coil can make a flower. All you need is a yellow coil for the centre of the bloom, then five coils in another colour for the petals. If you pinch one side of your coil, you will have a leaf shape. If you pinch both sides of a coil, you will have a double pointed shape. There are lots more shapes you could learn to make the embellishments you would like. And you can build all sorts of shapes with quilled components, from animals to buildings to food to just about anything!

Recycle it

Another effective way to add 3d elements to your projects is to add a 3d recycled element to the mix. Has your feather duster lost a feather? Scrap with it! Is there an interesting insert inside a box? See if it is just what you are looking for with a certain layout. Do you have some old packing boxes? Tear one open and see if the corrugated card inside inspires you to make an embellishment from it. There is so much you can add with recycled materials.

Ribbon, material and more

I am sure you know how to use ribbon on a page or card. You adhere it down flat with a piece of double sided tape, right? Yes, that adds a little 3d element, but you can do much more with ribbon. You have probably already tied bows on a card or layout. But have you pleated it, sewn over the pleats, looped or curled it? Have you ruffled it and used the ruffle to wind into a flower shape held together with a button centre? How about tying knots in the end of a bunch of ribbons and then tying the bunch together and adding that to your project?

Ribbons can mimic stems for flowers too. Experiment with ribbon and twine and cord and leather. Try using netting or other pieces of material to add interest. Use a piece of material from a special dress or room furnishing to add value to the subject you are scrapping about. Use it as a background for a photo, or gathered or tied or scrunched - the choices are only limited by your imagination.

Texturise it

Yet another wonderful 3d element can be added with texture paints or gesso (coloured or otherwise). Slather colour on to the object and use various objects to 'work' it such as spatulas, paint brushes, a fork, a toothpick, a cotton bud, the end of a bobby pin. Use anything you think will make an interesting texture. Dab at it with an old hair brush or toothbrush. Embed beads, buttons, sequins or crystals in it. Add little shells. Throw on some glitter. Have fun! You will make something truly original and interesting to add as a background for your projects.

Remember that Cuttlebug or Big Shot machines dry emboss card stock. Make it even more interesting by sanding the ridges of the embossed patterns, or chalking them, or swiping an ink pad over them or painting and removing some of the paint with a tissue before it is completely dry. Crumple up the paper and smooth it out again.

I hope these ideas have inspired you to experiment and move a little (or a lot) outside your comfort zone to add some lovely 3d paper art to your handmade papercrafting repertoire.

Have fun!

Your Cover Letter Must Have THIS Ingredient

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Focus, vivid language, clear request for an in-person interview, proper format with plenty of white space? Yes to all of these essentials of a job search cover letter. But one ingredient that is often overlooked is tone. Many job seekers give too much attention to their work experience and skills, important as they are, and neglect to reveal their personality and character through the manner in which they express themselves.

Tone of Voice Matters

As you sit down to write your cover letter, consider how you want to come across and then match your wording to that objective. Do you want to convey enthusiasm and sincerity or are you willing to settle for lackluster language that leaves the hiring manager wondering who you are as a person? Here are two examples.

Example A: Thanks so much for posting your need for an administrative assistant on AnytownJobs.com. I've been looking for such a position since I moved to AnyTown last month. When I discovered that your organization is hiring, I jumped on the opportunity to contact you. I've had five years of experience assisting my previous employer and I know I can contribute to your company the skills I've developed in this job--organization, dependability, crisis management, and positive problem-solving.

Could we meet for an interview? I'm eager to find out your expectations for the person you hire and to show you how I will work hard to meet them. Please name a date and time that is right for you and I'll be there, ready to get right down to business.

Example B: I read your advertisement for an administrative assistant on AnytownJobs.com. This is the kind of work I wish to do. Therefore, I am writing this cover letter to let you know that I would like to meet for an interview so I can talk over what you need and how I can provide it. I have experience and skills related to this type of work. You can consult my enclosed resume for more details.

Please let me know if you would like to interview me. I am available weekday afternoons. I hope to hear from you soon.

Review and Study

If you were the hiring manager, which cover letter would you respond to? Take a moment to review each example and then jot down some notes on why you prefer the one you chose.

What makes it stand out?

What character trait shines through?

Would the person behind this letter be someone you'd like to work with?

What might you expect from that individual if faced with a crisis?

Save your comments and these examples to study while planning your next cover letter for the position you're seeking. Then let your personality and character guide you as you write, including job-related details in a tone that will compel the hiring manager to call you for an interview.

New Year's Resolution - Teach Your Child How to Create One

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

The tradition of creating a new year's resolution would be better if the parents are the ones who are teaching their children to create one for themselves, how to start the process and how to make it happen. But the first one that needs to be thought to a child are things that they want to improved from themselves.

The concept of this usually has a target result by the end of the year. The usual things that they want are to improve their relationship with their friends, family and peers.

First, ask your child what are the things that they want to improve: is it school achievement, their character, things they want to accomplish etc, once these are establish, as much as possible make the steps specific. For example read a book at least once a week or clean the bedroom every night before going to sleep. It is also import to make the terms as short as possible to accomplish things like to lose weight five (5) pounds per month instead of thirty (30) pounds per year.

The problem with having your terms too long is that the chances of becoming lazy is high and one may think that since there's still a lot of time, rescheduling of activities to a later time would be highly likely. That's why it's not realistic to make the terms too long.

Second, create a chart for every member of the family who was able to create their new year's resolution. Display it in front of your refrigerator so they can monitor their progress and inspire them to continue to achieve their targets.

Third, determine the specific time each week to talk about their progress and inform them if an adjustment needs to be done. Be sure to give praise for their achievements or give a little push if they need one.

Fourth, remember the milestones of each individual mark them with stickers or tape some coins on their chart. Visualization greatly helps children, they would surely enjoy putting stickers on their progress and reaching their targets slowly one by one.

Lastly, make sure this activity affects them in a positive way by choosing realistic targets and achieving it more or less, most especially to children.

Are You In Love With the Idea of Love?

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

My beloved and late friend and I used to spend our afternoon walks discussing my love life. Now that he's gone, I wonder if he would still say that I am in love with the idea of love. How about you? Are you really in love or are you just in love with the idea of Love? Let's see.

Are you in love with the Idea of Love? How to tell?

The first warning sign can be the immediate attraction you think you feel to the opposite sex under the following circumstances:

  • You recently broke up with your girlfriend or boyfriend.
  • Your previous relationship started and ended two weeks ago.
  • Most of your relationships are based on physical attraction.
  • The second warning sign can be seen within yourself. If you believe you feel that you behave in the following manner, then you have the tendency to fall in love with the Idea of Love:
  • You do not commit unless you see that the person is totally and mindlessly in love with you.
  • You don't show too much emotion or show too much emotion but can easily become detached when the person have hurt you
  • You long to see yourself married happily with kids but you don't have any particular person in mind that you want to spend that aspect of your life.
  • You are always looking for the "perfect match." You want someone to "complete you."
  • You feel that you should date more often and feels obliged to sleep with your date.

How many times have you tried seeing a romantic movie with your boyfriend or your husband? Were you able to observe how they tend to be sleepy when sweet, romantic scenes are up then all perky and awake during the love scenes? It is this difference in the two gender that makes it confusing to know whether you are in love or not.

Men believe that they are in love when they have already slept with the woman they liked, felt that she's not too demanding, she's altruistic, beautiful and ideal to be the mother of his children. Women on the other hand believe that they are in love when they meet a man whom they cannot stop thinking, one they look forward to seeing and has "cute" shortcomings that they can easily shrug off. It is on this basis that people get into a relationship. But when both have been subjected to a test of distance for a short or long duration, both gender will tend to forget the other and seek attention elsewhere. Well, not at the same time. Either the man or the woman will seek other partners but eventually, what was thought to be love on the first hand will start to wear off. Now, is that love?

In his book, "The Alchemist," Paolo Coelho's character Fatima mentioned love:

"One is loved, because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving."

Quite true. Ask your child why he or she loves you. If the child cannot answer, you are indeed blessed with loving children. So when you ask someone if they love you and they positively replied, ask them again why. If they start rationalizing with many points, then you know that you are not loved at all.

How to Make a Virgo Man Fall in Love With You

,
HOW TO MAKE 3D CHARACTERS :

Even if you're not a big believer in astrology, there is something to be said for men born during certain times of the years. Specific character traits seem to surface depending on when a man is born and if you have your eye on a particular Virgo man, you may be wondering if there's anything you can be doing to get him to notice you. If you want to make a Virgo man fall in love, you have to know exactly what makes him tick so you can appeal to that.

One quality a woman needs if she hopes to catch and keep a Virgo man is patience. Men born during late summer and early autumn generally take their time deciding on who to spend their life with. Virgo men aren't impetuous and they don't jump into long term relationships easily. If you are hoping for a fairytale romance where the man sweeps you off your feet and hurries you to the altar, that isn't going to happen with a man born under this sun sign. If you want to make a Virgo man fall in love with you, you must be willing to wait for him to feel it's time to commit.

Try and keep your emotions in check when you want to make a Virgo man fall in love with you. These men tend to get a little uncomfortable when faced with women who wear their hearts on their sleeves. If you break into tears at the drop of the hat or you're a woman who loves drama in her life, this may not be the man for you. Men born in late August and early September like calmness and emotional stability. Naturally you can still express what you are feeling to him, but it's important to do it in a way that doesn't involve a lot of tears or anger.

Be a hard worker and you'll likely catch the attention of a Virgo man. They have an incredibly strong work ethic and find that attractive in potential partners as well. Once you are involved, be prepared to be understanding and supportive of his need to focus on his career. Success in all areas of life is really important to men born at this time of year.

One of the reasons many women want a Virgo man to fall in love with them is how loyal they are. When these men commit to a woman they do it with the strong intention of it being forever. They also are known for their great memories. So you'll have little worry of being in a relationship with someone who can't remember your birthday or when you two first met.

It's easy to see why loving a man born under this astrological sign is wonderful. If you appeal to the things he believes in and you understand what he views as important, you'll have no trouble finding a permanent place in his heart.
